I often struggle to define writing success on my own terms, rather than relying 100% on external validation, and this time of year is especially tough, what with "best of" lists and seeing social posts about other writers' accomplishments for the year. While I don't want to begrudge other people's successes, it's hard not to compare myself to others and feel like I'm coming up short. I appreciate your encouraging words!
